The Good One

There are a few rare effects pedals that have marked the history of music. These being essential components of mythical sounds. This is the case of the Big Muff Ram's Head by EHX. A pedal that revolutionized the genre and influenced millions of guitarists for decades because it was adopted by Jimmy Hendrix, David Gilmour and so many others.

The Big Muff has always been an extraordinary pedal. Extraordinary in its size and its unique sound signature, halfway between overdrive, distortion and fuzz. It represents the sound of the 70's and it is a pedal that any self-respecting guitarist should have in his arsenal.

Based on the original "restored" circuit of a pedal belonging to a certain Smith (no, not Matrix) this The Good One is in fact a very rare Big Muff Triangle Knob from 1972. This model was manufactured from 1969 to 1972/73, it is the first version ever released, but the second edition marketed. The first version was manufactured on a very artisanal "perf-board", the second on a PCB already more serious, intended for sale in better conditions. As you might expect, at the time, EHX took pretty much everything they had on hand to manufacture their pedals (more than 18 different versions of the same circuit!), which inevitably created significant disparities from one pedal to another. Some sounded exceptional, others were passable. The Good One is of course one of the best that has passed through the hands of the brand, this one having a unique sound. Reason why it was absolutely necessary to offer it to as many people as possible :-)

Let's talk about the beast. The case is qualitative and highly inspired by the original model. It's beautiful, it's impressive, it's indestructible and... it must be said, it's impressive! Really. Inside, we find an ultra meticulous replica of the original circuit: PCB type 3003, component values, "hand wired" assembly and everything that contributes to the original sound. In particular the very many unique ceramic "disc" capacitors on this model and the unusual reverse polarity of this circuit.

So how does it sound? Huge! As you would expect. The Good One delivers a massive drive, a little tighter than the Caprid OG, an almost infinite sustain and a slightly more aggressive side. It's straight, dense, grainy, versatile and extremely easy to play because it forgives everything. You have an inimitable and so addictive grain. It's fun, quite simply.

With The Good One, Wren and Cuff continues to establish itself as the specialist in Big Muff and 60-70's fuzz of all kinds. A piece with an extremely limited production that we rarely have in stock and that must be in any guitar collection! Jump on it!
