Outwardly, you're going to say "eh oh what are these Dymo labels!". Well it's the desired style and all the brand's pedals are housed in the same boat. For what? It is representative of the Shin's Music philosophy, namely an artisanal production where everything is modifiable and adaptable. The box is of very good quality. It has a very nice brown western finish. The components are of high quality and the assembly neat. About the circuit, don't ask us what makes it up, everything is "gooped" to keep it secret. The Brown Drive benefits from the usual Drive (gain) and Volume controls, and a 3-band EQ. It is powered by 9VDC in the usual way.
Connected to a Two-Rock Traditional which is a resolutely vintage clean platform with a lot of headroom, you activate the Brown Drive with... the gain all the way! Eh yes! We're talking about brown sound here! First thing, it doesn't blow and it doesn't "pok" when you turn it on. We strike a chord... a few notes and we believe it! A few modifications via the EQ to match the sound we have in mind and it's the epitome of the Marshall sound pushed to the limit! The "honk", the very sharp high-mids, the abundance of harmonics, the very slight fuzzy halo in the treble which brings this so characteristic sound. Everything is here! Plug a Les Paul or a Super Strat into this box and you are 100% in the world of Van Halen. Importantly, the EQ helps a lot. The Bass knob doesn't have a huge throw, it just allows your sound to be thick in a very musical way. The Medium knob is clearly the "magic trick". Its impact on the drive is enormous and it will really allow you to sculpt your sound. Note, this one also provides more or less compression depending on the setting, with a very specific "nasal" side. Last knob, Treble, will allow you to control this slight "halo" to fuse the harmonics.
The Shin's Music Brown Drive is an impressively realistic pedal. A real additional lead channel. The price is high, but it's definitely a pedal that mimics the sound of the master with insolent ease and is worth every penny. We love!
