The Free The Tone Red Jasper, a big, big reference for us for years. This superb overdrive pedal has not been available since 2018 due to lack of available components. It is with undisguised joy that we welcome this version 2 in this summer of 2022! Pedal with crazy dynamics and impressive headroom, the recipe is the same, with a few well-received little improvements.
Aesthetically, the pedal takes up the graphic style of the other models in the Standard Series range. A pretty aluminum case, very light and very pleasant to the touch. Inside, the Yokohama brand does not change anything as usual: it's just perfect at all levels. The pedal is entirely made in Japan and benefits from a perfect finish and the best components available. Well... It's Japanese!
On the front, very classic, a Level for the output level, a Drive for the gain and a Hi-Cut to adjust the high frequencies. Small novelty which is important: there are 2 dip-switches inside the pedal which allow you to adjust the amount of low injected into the effect. Indeed, depending on the amp or your setup, you may want to gain clarity at the bottom of the spectrum, or adjust the presence of the effect at low frequencies. This is so that the delivered drive passes optimally through the Mix. That's what these mode-switches are for.
Connected to a Classic Reverb with an ES-335 ... pwaaa ... it's total hell! everything at 12 o'clock and the hi-cut deactivated, we obtain a light drive, à la Robben Ford, Larry Carlton which benefits from a ton of headroom. It sparkles, it's complex, rich, it reacts instantly. It "grates" slightly in the mediums when you press a little. The "honk" of the 335 is felt immediately. We switch to a Les Paul type guitar, raising the gain and lowering the treble slightly: We then obtain a felted, organic, very articulated drive. By stacking the boost of the brand, we obtain an ultra-convincing Gary Moore sound. It's beautiful, the "good" frequencies are there, it cleans the volume knob like an amp... What can I say... AGAIN?! But yes! We want more!
