With the Nemesis Delay, the Boston brand is kicking in the anthill by developing a complete, technological and ultra-sharp multi-delay processor. Three years of development were needed to arrive at the final version of this superb machine. The Nemesis Audio Source is: 24 distinct delays, 128 MIDI presets, Stereo, Tap Tempo, the ability to add effects and edit even more functions through the Neuro Mobile application and much more...
Externally, we are entitled to a very elegant brushed aluminum frame. The assembly is perfect, the compact format and the handling very intuitive. Inside, there are high quality PCBs based on the SA601 architecture, as well as a 56-bit SIGMA DSP developed by Analog Devices Inc. At Source Audio, it's not kidding, the brand wants to be at the forefront of audio technologies, the architecture used offers computing power and processing quality that very few brands benefit from.
Concretely, the pedal offers you 12 types of delays on board, as well as 12 additional delays available via the Neuro application. In the program:
Slapback — Often associated with Rockabily, Slapback mode delivers a short, single-repeat delay, based on iconic tape delays.
Digital — A classic, very clean digital delay with modulation effect. The Intensity knob controls the high and low pass filters. At 12:00, it offers a 100% pure, unfiltered effect. The Nemesis benefits from a 56-bit processed signal with a 24-bit delay line for immaculate rehearsals.
Diffuse — A delay with a diffusion effect that blurs the attack of the repeated signal, softening it while mixing it more easily with the dry signal. This creates an almost celestial-sounding delay, akin to “oil can” delays (delays based on an oiled rotating disc that allowed a modulated delay with a sort of built-in vibrato effect).
Analog — The classic bucket brigade analog delay sound. Warm, dense, resonant and deconstructs into a lo-fi effect over time.
Tape — A detailed replica of classic tape (multi-head) delays. The tape captures all the characteristics that give the tape machine (Echoplex, Space Echo…) that unique warmth, complexity and modulation that many guitarists are fans of.
Noise Tape — A detailed replica of classic tape (fixed head) delays. Noise Tape mode is dirtier, darker than Tape mode. It captures sound from tapes that have lived or are damaged.
Degrade — A primitive Lo-Fi delay combined with a bit crusher and sample rate reduction. This creates unique retro sounds with varying amounts of distortion, noise, and aliasing.
Shifter — A pitch-shifted polyphonic delay. You can choose an octave shift (+high +low), minor, major third, fourth, fifth.
Helix — A reverse delay combined with an octaver for an almost angelic result that creates an effect that evaporates towards higher frequencies.
Reverse — The classic reverse tape delay sound made popular by a number of iconic psychedelic guitarists. The Nemesis creates several inverted delays that overlap and merge regularly to create a pulsating tremolo effect.
Sweeper — A resonant low-pass filter that slowly sweeps across the frequency range, creating an undulating synth effect.
Rhythmic — The Nemesis delay line contains 6 taps. This allows the creation of rhythmic "patterns". The rhythm effect uses 4 taps to create a wide variety of rhythms.
Guitar in hand, the Nemesis offers a very organic, very dense sound signature. There is thickness within the effect. This one, whatever the selected mode, never sounds "thin" but on the contrary, very rich, with a wide spectrum and a very nice spatialization. Very few machines on the market can boast of such quality. The notes are plain, defined, with an immediately identifiable sound signature. A truly impressive machine with disconcerting ease of use.
The Source Audio Nemesis Delay is a quality competitor to the Strymon TimeLine . A remarkable machine which benefits not only from a solid architecture, but also from ultra qualitative effects and almost limitless possibilities thanks to the application which offers a power rarely seen. A reference of the genre that every delay fan must have.
