Twin Sonic MKII - Dual Overdrive

The Twin Sonic is in some ways the Swiss Army knife of the brand. Be careful, sometimes, even often, when you want to do too much, you do everything wrong. But the OKKO Twin Sonic excels in everything it offers, which makes it in some ways the flagship of the German brand, due to its possibilities, its intelligent design, and its extreme efficiency!

The OKKO Twin Sonic is a pedal offering 2 totally independent overdrive panels. As for the construction and aesthetics, no surprises, the overall design is very qualitative, the housing is top and the manufacturing flawless, as always with OKKO. Let's quickly detail the front panel. On the left and right: the usual Gain and Level, a mini 3-position toggle switch that controls the midrange, a Voice button that allows you to shift the frequency range and a Hi-Cut to soften the high frequencies if necessary. The right channel (red) is positioned before the left channel (blue). Note, the Twin Sonic works in 18V (9V power supply) for maximum headroom.

The strong point of OKKO pedals, whether it's the Twin-Sonic or another, is that whatever you play, strato, les paul or other, it will sound good. Same thing for the amp, something very rare, they go on a lot of amps without any other requirement. So with the Twin-Sonic we have a pedal that we can potentially use with a multitude of configurations. It's a real Swiss army knife.

With a Les Paul on a "base clean" amp, we attack with the right section, which turns out to be ultra transparent and dynamic. Here, little gain, but a light drive, very open, with a nice bump in the midrange that will remind you of the best TS-like, but with this "grainy" side, typical of the brand's pedals. This section will ideally be stacked on a drive channel to make it twist and add thickness. It can also be used as a boost to get a slight breakup on a clean sound. With humbuckers, this blue channel works terribly well.
We move on to the red channel, this one is inspired by JTM / British, with a lower-mid voicing, thicker and with a higher gain level. We appreciate, just like on the blue channel, the extremely efficient Voice button. This allows you to thicken the drive on the left while softening it; and to gain in articulation and presence by turning to the right. This one works in parallel with the hi-cut to perfection.
By combining the two channels, it simply sends. The Overdrive is just magnificent. A model of naturalness and musicality. Very transparent, it brings its own sound signature while totally preserving what it is superimposed on. Airy, punchy, with superb articulation, it is responsive, dense, really "amp-like". The detractors of OD pedals can get dressed again, it is a real additional channel for your amp. The Twin is an overdrive full of nuances that will transcribe every detail of your playing.

The Twin-Sonic MKII is a success at all levels, a reference for us in terms of versatile Overdrive, in the same type as the Diablo. A model to test urgently if you find that all this seriously lacks "pep and color". You will not be disappointed!
