The KarDiaN Serotonin Origin ST is the result of the collaboration between KarDiaN and Susumu Tamura, the creator of the OD/TS-808. It was in 1978 that Susumu Tamura made his mark in the history of the electric guitar with this little green pedal. It is in 2024 that the two engineers team up to update this legendary overdrive with a version through which everything has been improved, while keeping the essence of the original.
The KarDiaN Serotonin Origin ST is a completely redesigned TS-808 Vintage with many modifications. A high-end construction, an extended gain range, extreme dynamics, a 2-band EQ instead of the usual Tone knob and overall a tool for sculpting your sound, equipped with a midrange and totally unique clarity!
A quick tour of the chassis. Let's keep it short, it's killer. No more no less. The finish is magnificent, the attention to detail rarely seen for a product of this type (a pedal), everything is handmade, it's light, super well insulated and it hits once on the pedalboard.
Inside, how can I put it? Things are getting tougher for the competition. It's simple, it's the best and it's beautiful. Yes, it’s beautiful to look at, it’s so well done. Custom OP-Amp supplied by S. Tamura, Amtrans AMRG resistors (1% tolerance, non-magnetic, brass tips, gold-plated oxygen-free copper outputs...), Orange Drop capacitors and Jantzen Audio, Vishay, Kemet etc. .. and PCB at the top. 4 buttons: Volume, Drive, Treble, Bass, 9VDC power supply.
You will notice, of course, the green color of the chassis and... the yellow which appears underneath in transparency, as on the original! It's a beating!
Connected to a nice clean base. We immediately find a medium well forward like on the historic TS, but we immediately notice a huge difference: clarity, articulation and dynamics. It's clearly another planet. The signal-to-noise ratio is ultra contained, the attack is enormous, the drive much less "flat" and ultra responsive. Ideally, we will use the Serotonin Origin ST as a boost to stack on a drive or amp channel. This will bring a definition and a presence that you will not find on any TS type pedal. From Mayer to the Nashville studios, this pedal is a lethal weapon for getting through the mix and giving a boost to your effects chain . You have a fluid drive, very high midrange, with a soft but present and audible high end. The very wide frequency range and the equalization drive home the point compared to other pedals of the genre by allowing you to sculpt your sound and avoid the usual weaknesses of the classic TS.
With this Serotonin Origin, KarDiaN corrects all the usual problems of this pedal copied and adapted countless times, by updating this great classic in a very qualitative way.
