A classic that all guitarists need, the Clean Boost! The Ground Control Audio Amaterasu is a super qualitative boost. In fact, not only is it made by caribou who know how to weld really well, but it doesn't just do... what it's supposed to do! Which, as we will see, makes it an absolutely essential effect pedal!
Externally, it's really too "kawaii", the case is superb and it's as beautiful outside as inside. High quality PCB, soldering (of the same caribou) at the top, selected components. It's made to last and it's fun on a pedalboard. As for controls, don't look for noon to 2 p.m., there is one and only one! The magic button that controls the amount of gain applied to the boost (+26db). Wait, it's not over! In fact, there's a mini-toggle switch that lets you turn the Amaterasu into a Treble Boost. So we have two pedals in one. Isn't life beautiful?
Connected to a nice clean channel of the Two-Rock type, we immediately note the very low level of noise / breath released by the pedal. The signal is 100% analog and the unique control very musical.
By activating the pedal, you get of course a clean "flat" boost. And also a very nice color specific to the Amaterasu. Indeed, this one adds a nice harmonic content, a slight natural compression very musical and a je ne sais quoi of body and dynamics in addition. It's punchy, it boosts the entire spectrum by adding niaque in the bottom and complexity in the treble. With the Treble switch activated, frequencies are boosted in the 3.2 kHz range with a maximum of 12 dB. Ideal for solos or to lighten up a somewhat "dark" guitar / amp.
In the end, the Ground Control Audio Amaterasu is a versatile boost of very high quality. In addition, it is offered at a price that could not be more attractive, so why deprive yourself? Thanks to our Canadian friends for this very nice pedal!
