The Shin's Music Clean Drive is one of the brand's best sellers, designed 20 years ago! A versatile overdrive with a unique sonic signature.
Outwardly, you're going to say "eh oh what are these Dymo labels!". Well it's the desired style and all the brand's pedals are housed in the same boat. For what? It is representative of the Shin's Music philosophy, namely an artisanal production where everything is modifiable and adaptable. The box is of very good quality. It has a relic finish with very nice crackled cellulo varnish. The components are of high quality and the assembly neat. About the circuit, don't ask us what makes it up, everything is "gooped" to keep it secret. The Clean Drive benefits from the usual Drive (gain), Tone and Volume controls. It is powered by 9VDC in the usual way.
Connected to a Two-Rock Traditional which is a resolutely vintage clean platform with a lot of headroom, we activate the Clean Drive with everything at 12:00.
First thing, it does not blow, but then, really not. It does not "pok" when you engage. Second thing, no god what an attack! It's incredibly fast and transparent. We hear the amp very clearly on the attack, and immediately, the drive is grafted like a layer on the clean sound. The attack generates a very slight "ummppff" typically vintage and it comes back very quickly to the level of the right hand. With these settings, you get a punchy, very versatile drive, with a very marked top end. The Clean Drive offers you a drive with a low end, which is the typical signature of the brand, but also with a "sparkly" high end, rich in scintillating harmonics. She "grates" when you attack hard with a fleshy medium. By pushing the gain to make, we obtain a drive typically rock-pressed or hard 70's. The equivalent of a good old "cranked" JTM. Icing on the cake, the clean pedal in a magnificent way to the volume knob.
This Shin's Music Clean Drive is one of the references of the genre. Its attack which literally "blooms", its very organic compression, its ultra-musical high-medium / treble which shines and allows you to pass through the mix... What can I say?
