The KarDiaN Serotonin Origin ST is the result of the collaboration between KarDiaN and Susumu Tamura, the creator of the OD/TS-808. It was in 1978 that Susumu Tamura made history on the electric guitar with this little green pedal. It was in 2024 that the two engineers joined forces to update this legendary overdrive with a version in which everything has been improved, while keeping the essence of the original.
The KarDiaN Serotonin Origin ST is a completely reworked Vintage TS-808 with many modifications. A high-end construction, an extended gain range, dynamics pushed to the extreme, a 2-band EQ instead of the usual Tone knob and overall a tool to sculpt your sound, with a totally unique midrange and clarity!
Quick tour of the chassis. Let's make it short, it's a killer. No more, no less. The finish is magnificent, the attention to detail rarely seen for a product of this type (a pedal), everything is handmade, it's light, super well insulated and it hits the pedalboard once.
Inside, how can I tell you? Things get tougher for the competition. It's simple, it's the best there is and it's beautiful. Yes, it's beautiful to look at because it's so well done. Custom OP-Amp provided by S. Tamura, Amtrans AMRG resistors (1% tolerance, non-magnetic, brass tips, gold-plated oxygen-free copper outputs...), Orange Drop and Jantzen Audio capacitors, Vishay, Kemet etc... and top-notch PCB. 4 buttons: Volume, Drive, Treble, Bass, 9VDC power supply.
You will notice, of course, the green color of the chassis and... the yellow that appears underneath in transparency, like on the original! It's a beating!
Connected to a nice clean base. We immediately find a medium well forward as on the historical TS, but, we immediately note a huge difference: the clarity, the articulation and the dynamics. It is clearly another planet. The signal to noise ratio is ultra contained, the attack is enormous, the drive much less "flat" and ultra reactive. Ideally, we will use the Serotonin Origin ST as a boost to stack on a drive or an amp channel. This will bring a definition and a presence that you will not find on any TS type pedal. From Mayer to the Nashville studios, this pedal is a fatal weapon to get through the mix and to give a boost to your effects chain . You have a fluid drive, very high mids, with a soft but present and audible high end. The very wide frequency range and the equalization drive the nail in the face of other pedals of the genre by allowing you to sculpt your sound and avoid the usual weaknesses of the classic TS.
With this Serotonin Origin, KarDiaN corrects all the usual problems of this pedal copied and adapted countless times, by updating this great classic in a very qualitative way.
The ADD CBF model benefits from additional controls: Blend, Clean-LPF, Clean-Vol. The ADD CBF mode allows you to work with precision on the low end of the spectrum while scrubbing the dynamics of the signal not processed by the effect by re-injecting it via a mixer in parallel with the processed sound.
