The JAM Pedals Boomster MK.2 is a boost as we like them at Guitars Rebellion. Gossips will say that a buffer / booster is a very basic circuit and that there are hundreds of pedals on the market that do this. Ok, but how many actually do it well? How many magnify your sound without distorting it and adding noise? Well there, there is much less jostling at the gate!
Externally it is a JAM Pedals, it has a hand painted finish. Each pedal will therefore be slightly different from one copy to another. The controls couldn't be simpler and more intuitive: a Level setting, a mini-toggle-switch for the frequencies to be boosted, and voilà! There is also an input for an expression pedal to use as a volume pedal.
Inside, we have a quality PCB which only confirms the great care that our Greek friends bring to the manufacture of these pretty, colorful pedals. There is a Burr-BrownTM OPA 2132 which will be in charge of managing your signal in complete transparency. Note, the pedal can operate at 9-18V. We recommend that you use it in 18 for maximum headroom.
Connected to a clean channel, we immediately notice the progressiveness of the single control, it is very well calibrated, progressive and usable over the entire race. When the effect is engaged, it does not bring in unwanted frequencies, it does not drastically change your signal, but amplifies it, with a more complex top of the spectrum, a well-rounded bottom and overall more attack, dynamic and responsive. Not bad for a single button hun??! Yes, sometimes it's in the great simplicity that we find the multitude of small details that make your - sound - easier to play, richer and that it passes better through the mix by being more balanced.
You gain an extended frequency spectrum and your instrument is easier to play. In addition to that, these frequencies can be adjusted via the internal trimmers and cover all types of boost needed via the mini-switch. That is the demand of the people?!
