BC1 Bass Compressor

The Caveman Audio BC1 Bass Compressor is a 100% analog Master Compressor for your bass. Designed to magnify and preserve the sound of your favorite bass, the BC1 should be designed as a premium interface, similar to a rack-mounted studio compressor. The ideal companion for your pre-amp, the only one capable of reproducing all the nuances of your playing on stage and in the studio. The BC1 Bass Compressor features a bulletproof chassis and ultra-high quality PCB. It benefits from two foot-switches which enable the effect and its boost section to be activated. There are also the usual controls for Level, Attack, Release, Threshold and the level adjustment for Boost.
On the rear panel: 2 inputs (XLR balanced / unbalanced - Line / Instr.) and 2 outputs (Amp Out / DI). There are also 3 mini-switches to switch from one input to another, to switch from Series to Parallel compression and to activate a Ground Lift for the DI output. The latter will allow you to attack a console or your DAW .

The most important thing with the BC1 is your setup. This will define the positioning and benefits of the BC1 within your Rig. Generally speaking, BC1 should be at the very end of the chain. After all your effects, just before attacking an amp or console. The best configuration is, of course, to combine it with the BP1 Preamp to benefit 100% from the XLR connectors and the superb DIs integrated into the 2 elements. If you don't have a pre-amp, place the BC1 at the end of the chain, it will always magnify your sound, even with unbalanced connections.

The BC1 offers up to 25ms before it kicks in, leaving valuable transients in your sound intact. These transients are often called "definition", and you don't want to lose that! That said, you can easily go below 25ms, and if you want to create a big pump effect, the BC1 can take you down to 0.1ms.
A Boost circuit is not common on compressor pedals, but then again the BC1 is a very different beast. What about bass solos? You're probably using a boost pedal for this, but since the BC1 is normally at the end of the chain, the signal going into it would be hotter and the BC1 would compress more in this case. This is why Caveman added a Level and Boost. Use the Level to adjust the overall output level, but if you set the Boost knob a little higher, it will give you a boost when you activate it – but without changing the compression level, unlike an add-on pedal. It's beautiful!
